UrbanBuilt is committed to building a better Baltimore through community donations, involvement and volunteerism.
UrbanBuilt staff will be volunteering this weekend at the Baltimore Better Business Bureau’s Shred Day to help local residents fight identity theft. BBB staff and volunteers will also distribute tips to help consumers take daily precautions to protect their identities.
On Saturday, April 21, UrbanBuilt will join other community volunteers to provide free document shredding behind hhgregg on Arundel Mills Blvd. and at The AVENUE in White Marsh on Town Center Drive from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen each year, with Maryland ranking ninth in the country for identity theft victims. Stolen names, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers and ID’s can be used without permission to commit fraud and other crimes. At last year’s Shred Day, BBB helped over 1,200 families destroy 48,000 pounds of personal identifying documents. Join us this Saturday and learn how to keep you and your family safe from identity theft.
